Carl Schumann

President

Carl is in his second year at King's reading Political Economy. He enjoys white wines from Germany and Austria, red wines from Italy, and a good bottle of port but hopes that the society will broaden his knowledge of other wine-regions. After the society ceased operating throughout the pandemic, Carl's goal is to build on the success and work of previous committees to stimulate a community of wine enthusiasts from all parts of the University that doesn't only provide opportunities to taste and learn about exceptional wines and their origin but also a unique space for students from different degrees (and universities) to meet around this common interest.

Howard Lee

VP

Howard is a second-year student within the Dickson Poon School of Law. Having grown up in Hong Kong, he has a strong love for maotai and sake. Ever since he has started studying at King's, he has began his journey of exploring and learning the intricacies of both white and red wines. Howard hopes that he is able to support the society through administrative means and help make everyone be able to enjoy themselves to the fullest during their time in the society.

David Williams

Treasurer

David is a third year PhD student within the departments of History and War Studies. His research is broadly on visual culture and discourse analysis, and national identity, nationalism and patriotism. Having grown up in sunny warm and wine growing California, he decided to make his was to the beautiful weather and the UK. Growing up, wine was something both had at most meals on the cheap, but also at times something to enjoy, savour and experience. As the bedrock to his relationship with wine, it speaks to his wider view of wine and wine tasting. David firmly believes that wine should first and foremost be about sharing, conversation, and enjoyment reflected and experiences uniquely by each person. To this end, wine should not be the reserve of stuffiness, but merely another facet in the human delight in flavours, smells and tastes. As such, he wishes to make sure the society is a place for people to come together, talk, learn, share, not just about wine but all interests. David is patrial to Sicilian and Greek reds but is most passionate about trying wines from regions outside of the typical and popular regions.
