Dominic Thomas-James
Governor
Dominic read Law at King's College London. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales and went on to complete an MPhil and PhD at the University of Cambridge, where his work focussed on transnational economic misconduct in the Carribean. He is a Bordeaux enthusiast, having travelled the region extensively and tasted wine in the company of Paul Pontallier of Château Margaux and Bernard de Laage de Meux of Château Palmer.
Romané Basset
Governor
Romané studied French with English during his time at KCL, with a particular interest in the Old French Romances of the middle ages. The son of renowned sommelier Gérard Basset OBE MS MW, a co-founder of Hotel du Vin, Romané has grown up in the world of wine, and in particular sommellerie. During his time has President of the Fine Wine Society of King's College London, Romané organised tastings presenting wines from varied global regions such as Chile, Austria, and even Georgia. Now a Co-founding trustee and administrator of the Gérard Basset Foundation, a charity focused upon creating opportunities through wine, spirits, and hospitality education and professional training, Romané is still immersed daily in the wine industry, and has even returned to the society on occasion to lead tastings of wines from Burgundy and Champagne. In his own life, he enjoys dry Sherry, sweet Madeira, and Champagne as his absolute favourite tipples.
Karl Ulas
Governor
Karl read Classical Studies at King's College London. He is currently completing a graduate diploma in Law between spells of Mediterranean and Black Sea travel. Originally of Circassian heritage, his oenological misssion is to promote the lesser-known wines of the near east - especially Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, and Georgia.
